As a producer, Alfred has forged his own sound; characterised by intricate drum sequencing, uplifting chords and driving bass lines - connecting the dots between breakbeat, electro and garage. There are traces of jazz influences in his music too, owing to his musically rich background and upbringing (his mum was a gospel singer, his dad played in a reggae band and his uncle leads a Steely Dan cover group). Previous releases on his own Reference Mark Recordings imprint have garnered support from a diverse range of DJs including Ralph Lawson, Moxie, Yak and Conducta.
As a DJ he has quietly gained a following in the last few years through his residency at The Old Red Bus Station in Leeds (where he’s currently based) and through his intimate monthly Reference Mark Live events. As well as DJing he is currently working on a live set combining parts of old tracks with new material and ideas. Whether DJing or live, an Alfred set will always reflect his outlook on life: optimism and positivity.
